Exercise & Nutrition Log-1.21.14

It’s a cold damp day.  Comfort food is calling my name!  Here’s the thing-food is still nutrition.  So, can good nutritious  food also be a comfort?  ABSOLUTELY!  Warm soups make the mark.  How about whole grain breads with nut butters?  The truth is our bodies do seem to call out for more carbohydrate dense foods in cold weather.  We naturally move toward those foods that also tend to add fat to increase layers of bodily warmth.  Eating those denser carbohydrates earlier in the day and including regular exercise will offset fat gains.

Here’s  my day (And, yes, it’s a bit carb heavy!):

Yoga 30 minutes.

Breakfast: 1 egg, 2 slices whole grain bread, almond butter, amla paste

Snack: Orange

Lunch: Roast beef au Jus on whole grain bread, 1 slice provolone, potato leek soup.potato-kale-soup-fd-lg

Snack:  Steamed almond milk w/dark chocolate sauce

Strength workout- 45 minutes.

Dinner:  Chicken Breast, sweet potatoes, green beans

Evening:  Protein smoothie w/ peanut butter, chocolate protein,1/2 banana & almond milk,

You can get through the cold months and manage the fat gain through careful planning of nutrition and continued daily exercise.

Happy Day!
